Automation Overview

Certificate Lifecycle Management (CLM) automation handles the issuance, renewal, and installation of digital certificates without manual intervention. It reduces human error, minimizes downtime, and saves time—making it easier to keep systems secure and compliant.

Deployment Options

GeoCerts offers two primary deployment options for certificate automation: the DigiCert ACME Client through CertCommand, or Managed Automation for a fully guided, hands-off experience.

Option 1: Certificate Automation (ACME)

Automate certificate issuance and renewal using the DigiCert ACME Client, GeoCerts’ recommended ACME path. This option is ideal if you:

  • Want ACME automation included at no additional cost from GeoCerts
  • Manage certificates on Linux or Windows servers you control
  • Prefer a supported client designed for DigiCert ACME Directory URLs
  • Want automatic renewals via a background service and dc-acme.toml configuration

Third-party clients such as Certbot or Win-ACME are also supported. See Alternative ACME Clients if you already use those tools.

Option 2: Managed Automation

GeoCerts’ managed automation solution provides a complete, out-of-the-box certificate lifecycle management system. This workflow is perfect if you:

  • Manage 20+ certificates or expect your inventory to grow
  • Prefer a fully managed, low-touch solution
  • Lack the time or expertise to oversee certificate lifecycles manually
  • Need to automate certificates across internal, legacy, or hybrid systems
  • Want centralized visibility, reporting, and compliance tracking
  • Deploy to environments like load balancers where ACME clients are difficult or unsupported
  • Are open to additional yearly costs based on certificate volume for a hands-off experience
