Install SSL Certificate: O'Reilly WebSite Professional 2.x

Follow these instructions to install your GeoTrust SSL certificate for your Web site.

  1. Your SSL server certificate will be sent to you by email. The email message includes the web server certificate that you purchased in the body of the email message. Copy the certificate from the body of the email and paste it into a simple text editor, such as Notepad.

    Copy Certificate to Notepad

  2. Save the server certificate on your local or network file system as yourdomain.txt.
  3. Next, you will need to download the appropriate GeoTrust root CA certificate. You will need the Base-64 text version of the trusted root. You can save it to your desktop or other location as geotrustroot.txt.
  4. We now have the GeoTrust root certificate and the server certificate saved and we need to install each one. Open O’Reilly Server Properties. This is located within the Website Professional tool bar under Programs.
  5. Select the Key Ring tab and then right-click on your key ring.
  6. Check the Trusted roots checkbox in the lower left corner and click on Add Trusted Root.
  7. Browse to locate the geotrustroot.txt file you saved earlier. You may have to change the Files of Type: to All Files in order to see the file you're browsing for.
  8. You will now see the GeoTrust (Equifax) root certificate listed in the keyring.
  9. Now, right-click on the keyring with the question-mark (?) and select Attach Certificate.
  10. Browse to locate the yourdomain.txt file you saved earlier. You may have to change the Files of Type: to All Files in order to see the file you're browsing for.
  11. You will notice the keyring is green and ready to use. After you close the screen you will be prompted to update the server settings. This will need to be done before your SSL connection can be tested.

Test your SSL certificate by using a browser to connect to your server. Use the https protocol directive. For example, if your SSL was issued to secure.mysite.com, enter https://secure.mysite.com into your browser.

The gold padlock icon Gold Padlock Indicates Secure Browser Mode on your browser will be displayed in the locked position if your certificate is installed correctly and the server is properly configured for SSL.
