Install SSL Certificate: Plesk 8

Follow these instructions to install your GeoTrust SSL certificate for your Web site.

  1. Your SSL server certificate will be sent to you by email. The email message includes the web server certificate that you purchased in the body of the email message. Copy the certificate from the body of the email and paste it into a simple text editor, such as Notepad.

    Copy Certificate to Notepad

Save the certificate file as yourdomain.txt on your local machine or network (the name and location of this file is not important).
  2. Logon to Plesk to access the Certificates Repository. Click Domains > domain name, Certificates.
  3. Use the Browse button in the middle of the page to locate the yourdomain.txt certificate you saved in Step 1. Click Send File. This will upload and install the SSL certificate against the corresponding private key.
  4. Return to the domain's administration screen by clicking Domains > domain name and click Setup in the Hosting group.
  5. Select the SSL certificate that you wish to install from the Certificate drop-down box. If there is no Certificate drop-down box on the screen, it means that you are on a shared hosting account and, therefore, you will need to upgrade your hosting package to a package that has a dedicated, non-shared IP address. This is a requirement of the SSL protocol.
  6. Click the SSL Support check box.
  7. Click OK.

These instructions are derived from the Plesk 8 documentation.

Test your SSL certificate by using a browser to connect to your server. Use the https protocol directive. For example, if your SSL was issued to secure.mysite.com, enter https://secure.mysite.com into your browser.

The gold padlock icon Gold Padlock Indicates Secure Browser Mode on your browser will be displayed in the locked position if your certificate is installed correctly and the server is properly configured for SSL.
